Pressure on Pompey at Plymouth - but who gets nod to turn fortunes around?
Friday, 8th Feb 2019 19:31 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey head to Plymouth knowing it's their opponents who are the form team of the two.

The pressure is on the Blues to end a run of league games without a win which stretches to four matches going back to January 1.

Boss Kenny Jackett has plenty of selection options open to him - all eyes will be on the team news just after 2pm with a number of ponderables due to be answered.

Who plays up front? James Vaughan and Omar Bogle are both pushing Oli Hawkins for the role. Who are the three behind? Who plays in the deeper midfield roles, especially with Tom Naylor suspended?

We won't find out until Saturday afternoon but Kenny Jackett has told The News he thinks he knows his best starting XI, the one that can get Pompey back on track and hopefully back in the top two.

The manager told the Pompey website: 'We certainly need a win in the league — we know that and are trying everything we can to get it. But we have a good squad of players and it’s up to me to get the right combination out on the pitch on Saturday.

'We need to be at our best defensively and offensively to get the results we need and we’re certainly capable of it. We’re looking for the right blend and balance to get both a clean sheet and the goals that can make a difference.

'If you want to have a successful season then you need a sprint finish where you can put a consistent run of wins together.'

Plymouth are up to 16th from the relegation zone after a flying start to 2019.
