Pompey boss has options ahead of Wembley - but may not need many

Kenny Jackett says he has a good idea about who he will pick for Pompey's Wembley adventure.

He is not expected to make many changes to the side which won at Shrewsbury when he sends his troops out under the arch to face Sunderland in Sunday's Checkatrade Trophy final.

He has an XI in mind - but says it could still change between now and the day.

The big question is whether Ronan Curtis will be fit - and early indications from his return to training are that the Irishman could make it.

Jackett told The News: 'I’ve got a good idea about my Wembley team. I want to try to keep it consistent, but obviously it’s about where you are with the injuries — and also how people look in training during this week.

'The important thing for us is having options. Like any manager, you would want options and then to try to pick the right team on the day.

'We must assess players in training and make sure you know where people are in terms of injuries and coming back from being out or whatever. They are the things we have five days to consider before Sunday's game.'

Jacket used numerous fringe members of the squad - including plenty of youngsters - in the earlier Checkatrade rounds but fielded a stronger side at Bury in the semi-finals with Wembley in sight.
