Pompey's penalty shootout winner Oli Hawkins says the Blues must go all out to add promorion to their Checkatrade Trophy win - to make it a 'wonderful' season.

The man who put away the decisive fifth penalty to see off Sunderland at Wembley says it's all about the final seven league games of the season - starting at Wycombe on Saturday.

He said he was determined to take the final penalty in Sunday's shootout and was confident he would put it away.

Hawkins told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'It’s obviously a brilliant feeling and I wanted the fifth penalty — I was confident enough that I could put it away. I was always going to put it where I did. I was looking at their keeper and he was going to his left a lot, so I knew where to go and stuck with that.

'It’s my first game at Wembley and I’m from the area — not far from the ground — although I’ve been here a few times to watch. So the feeling is unbelievable and to score the winning penalty in front of those fans is what dreams are made of.

'Our league form was good in the lead-up to the game and now we need to focus on the last seven games. If we can go on to secure promotion then it would have been a wonderful season.'

Meanwhile Nathan Thompson, revelling in his equaliser that got Pompey back in it in the second half against the Black Cats, agrees that the team now have a chance to use their Wembley joy to their advantage in the promotion race.

He told the club site: 'Hopefully it can provide us with a bit of momentum going into the final push because our ultimate aim is getting into the Championship.'
