Pompey don't want to be left be wondering after Wanderers clash
Friday, 5th Apr 2019 21:20 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey return to League One action this weekend after the highs of last Sunday at Wembley - knowing there is no room for error in their pursuit of promotion.

Four wins from their past five games have reignited Pompey's hopes of a top two finish - although the play-offs remain their most likely route to the Championship, with Barnsley and Sunderland ahead of them in the race to finish second.

Pompey head to Wycombe in fourth place, two points behind Sunderland and five behind Barnsley (and a surely irrelevant 12 behind Luton) and quite simply have to win to keep up those hopes of gatecrashing the top two.

They will face hosts who have not won in the past 10 games but who desperately need points to arrest their slide towards the bottom four.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is hoping his side can take the momentum of recent weeks - including the win at Wembley - into the final few games.

He told the club website: 'It was a unique occasion for us at Wembley and to come out on top made it a day that we could all enjoy. We have to take momentum from wins — and Sunday was a big one for us — because our aim is still to get promoted.

'Now we need to take that into the Wycombe game, but there is a big difference between confidence and complacency. The attitude has to be right and it’s important to realise that you need to earn whatever you can get — every point you collect is going to be hard fought.

'It’s a massive game for them and I’m sure they’re relishing the opportunity as much as we are, but we want to build on four successive victories. Second spot is still open and we have to keep pushing. We need to make sure our form is right and be there if the other sides slip up.

'If we’re not able to do that then we want to go into the play-offs full of confidence and playing well.'

Bryn Morris is available to face his former loan side after a knee problem. But Andy Cannon (thigh), Dion Donohue (groin), Luke McGee (hand) and Viv Solomon-Otabor (calf) are all still out.
