Honest hard-working players can get Pompey up
Monday, 8th Apr 2019 22:17 by pompey-fans.com staff

Brett Pitman paid tribute to his honest and hard-working team-mates - and said if they kept on winning, promotion was possible.

The club captain has come back into favour in recent weeks in the No10 role and scored twice at Wycombe to help Pompey to a 3-2 victory, their fourth straight League One win.

Pitman told the club website: 'It was tense at the end, but we were very good in the first half and then it became a scrap after the break. They kept putting the ball into our box from anywhere on the pitch and luckily we ultimately came out on top.

'It was too close to put the free-kick over the wall, so I was always going to put it where I did and I hit it nicely. I’m pleased to be back playing, but also that we’re winning — it’s more important that the team is doing well.

'We’re going to need a lot of victories between now and the end of the season if we want to get promoted. You don’t know how many points are going to be enough, so you just have to try to keep winning whenever you can.

'We’re doing well at the moment and getting results, which is something we weren’t doing at the start of the year. Our lads are honest and hard-working and thankfully we’ve turned a corner in recent weeks, so want to keep that going.'

Next up for the Blues is a home clash with Rochdale on Saturday.
