Plenty of interest in Lowe and Clarke - but they're still Pompey players

Interest in Jamal Lowe is stepping up - while Matt Clarke's suitors seem to be taking their time coming up with the readies.

The Daily Mirror says Burnley have reportedly joined the race for top scorer Lowe, who it is believed is also of great interest to Wigan and Millwall.

So far any offers for Lowe have not been anywhere enough to tempt Pompey, who are in no hurry to let anyone go below their true value.

Burnley's interest may prompt higher bids from Millwall or Wigan but for now at least, lowe remains very much a Blues man.

The same goes for Clarke, although Brighton remain hot favourites to land the centre-half, with earlier interest from Leeds and Stoke seeming to have cooled in the face of the Seagulls' chase for him.

Pompey writer for The News Jordan Cross has likened the saga to a game of poker, saying: "There doesn't seem to have been a great deal of development in the past few days, but you're going to have this game of poker — as we've said many times now.

"Perhaps Brighton feel that it will hamper Pompey's progress with other signings if the deal doesn't go through. But Pompey are very emphatic that it won't, and in stories we've written, Mark Catlin has intimated that they can go about their business regardless of what happens with Matt Clarke.

"So, do we have an impasse, or a bit of a stand off with people not willing to show their hands at the moment? 'I think we're probably going to see a bit more of that before the Matt Clarke scenario reaches a conclusion."
