Is the pressure on Pompey ahead of Coventry's visit?
Monday, 19th Aug 2019 21:03 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey face a little bit of early season pressure when they host Coventry at Fratton Park on Tuesday night off the back of two defeats in their opening three League One matches.

Defeats at Shrewsbury and Sunderland, either side of a home win over Tranmere, have left the Blues in the bottom half of the table with some fans wondering if Kenny Jackett has found his best XI yet.

Changes, at least one or two, seem likely after the loss at Sunderland and boss Kenny Jackett knows improvements are needed.

Fans have questioned the form of Anton Walkes and Ronan Curtis, among others, while there has been a debate about where Ross McCrorie should be utilised after he came on and did well at right-back against the Black Cats.

He told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We got into very good positions on Saturday and our delivery just wasn’t as good as it should have been. That’s something you always practice on the training ground because it’s such an important part of the game.

'So we’ll continue to make the players aware that we need better quality, as well as the desire to get on the end of those crosses. It’s something we’re trying to rectify and we’re pleased that we’ve got another game coming along so quickly.'

Jackett knows Coventry will bring a tough test for Pompey - just as they did at Easter, when the Blues had to work hard for a 2-1 win that turned out to be their final victory of the season.

The manager added: 'Coventry had a good season last term and finished eighth. They looked bright and continue to do so this season. There are several top players in the squad and they have a very energetic way of playing, so we’re full of respect for them.'
