Pompey upset they don't have a quick chance to put things right

Skipper Gareth Evans has promised that Pompey will hold a full inquest into their collapse against Coventry.

The Blues led 3-1 against City but ended up drawing 3-3 despite the visitors having two men sent off.

Home fans vented their anger at the cave-in after manager Kenny Jackett made some puzzling tactical decisions and brought on a fifth defender despite his team having a two-man advantage.

Evans told The News: 'When we calm down we have to analyse this and where we’ve thrown it away. It’s hard to say what went wrong. We’re going to have to look back at the video and sit through it. It’s really frustrating. It will put a dampener on the rest of the week.

‘It’s probably worse not having a game to get it out of the system. We’ve got to wait over the weekend when we’d prefer to play and put things right. It’s just the manner of the result more than anything.

‘They’ve gone down to nine men and scored two goals. It’s almost a given that we should have won the game - and we haven’t done that.

‘We look good going forward and capable of scoring goals. It’s just a case of trying to keep clean sheets and keeping it to zeroes and ones against us. That’s a massive part of the gaffer’s philosophy and something I’m sure he’ll be addressing in the coming days.’

Jordy Hiwula gave Coventry an early lead before Ronan Curtis nodded in the equaliser from Marcus Harness's cross. John Marquis prodded in from Brandon Haunstrup's cross and Gareth Evans made it 3-1.

Fankaty Dabo's red card didn't stop Matt Godden giving Coventry a lifeline from the penalty spot, then lightning struck again as another Sky Blues dismissal - Gervane Kastaneer - was followed by another Sky Blues goal, scored by Michael Rose.

Pompey: MacGillivray; McCrorie, Raggett (Pitman 90), Downing, Brown (Haunstrup 32); Naylor, Close; Harness, Evans (Burgess 85), Curtis; Marquis. Subs not used: Bass, Bolton, Cannon, Harrison.

Referee: Kevin Johnson

Attendance: 18,748 (950 away fans)
