Lucky? That wasn't lucky, says Pompey's matchwinner at Doncaster

Some said Pompey's win at Doncaster was lucky - but matchwinner Ellis Harrison was having none of that.

The Blues came home with the points after Harrison headed an injury time winner after Reece James had cancelled out Gareth Evans' opener.

Doncaster had the best of the chances and the possession and were upset to end on the losing side.

Harrison told the Pompey website: 'We had to hold on at times and not many teams will come here and pick up three points. I was sat on the bench during the first half, but it was a tough contest and we had a game-plan that was sensible.

'The manager gave us a boost with his team-talk at half-time and it worked perfectly for us in the end. I should have made better contact from an earlier cross from Gaz, but I knew that I’d caught the second one perfectly.

'The keeper had made a great save from Closey’s effort and so I was just hoping that he wouldn’t get a touch on it. Thankfully, it dipped over him. It’s an unbelievable feeling to score the winner and secure the three points, although there was still a lot to do after the goal.

'Burgey and the whole defence were getting the blocks in and I had to head one away in the last 10 seconds. We had to defend well, but it’s not luck when you’ve got so many people throwing themselves in front of shots.'

Pompey will host Gillingham next Saturday after confirming they will not call it off because of international call-ups, although they are set to be without Craig MacGillivray, Ross McCrorie, Ronan Curtis and possibly Ryan Williams.

Pompey: MacGillivray; Bolton, Burgess, Raggett, Brown; Harness (Williams 82), Close, Naylor, Evans; Marquis (Harrison 46), Pitman. Subs not used: Bass, Walkes, Downing, Haunstrup, McCrorie

Referee: Andy Haines

Attendance: 8,962 (1,351 Pompey fans)
