Two points from two games doesn't satisfy Jackett - it should have been six
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2019 20:23 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett said Pompey should have been capable of defending their 1-0 lead against Oxford at Fratton Park - or should have been more than a goal up so United's late strike didn't matter.

Matty Taylor headed in a late equaliser for Karl Robinson's team to cancel out Gareth Evans' penalty, scored after Ben Close was fouled in the box.

It's the third Saturday in a row Pompwy have conceded late - and those three goals against, put together, have cost the Blues five points.

Jackett told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We’re obviously very frustrated because it looked such a simple goal on a day when our standards were pretty high. It was the same against Bristol Rovers and we’ve got two points out of six on the back of two very good performances.

'We’ve worked extremely hard to get ourselves into pole position and it’s been a feature of the season that we’ve let them slip. We haven’t got tight enough to James Henry and he’s dug out a looping cross that’s headed in from beyond the far post.

'Either we should have seen the game out or we should have put more of our chances away to ensure the late goal was just a consolation. It’s certainly not a point gained when we look back on how we’ve played — it’s definitely another case of two lost.

'There’s certainly a lot we can take from recent games because we delivered a lot of quality and tempo. Ultimately, though, points are the bottom line and there were areas where we could have made different decisions.'
