Dons must be downed if Pompey are serious about promotion
Monday, 24th Feb 2020 19:40 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey have a chance to get their forgettable Fleetwood performance out of their system quickly - and they need to make sure they take it.

A single goal by Callum Connolly condemned them to defeat in the north west, losing ground on a number of the promotion hunting teams above them.

Tuesday night brings MK Dons to Fratton Park for a rearranged league game and it's one most will say HAS to end with a home win if Pompey are to regain at least some of the initiative in the race for a top six finish and possible promotion spot.

The importance of this game and Friday night's clash at home to Rochdale is not lost on Kenny Jackett, who told the club website: 'Our players will be determined to bounce back because the games come thick and fast and we don’t have time to dwell on things.

'It’s a high standard at the top of the division and I think the Rotherham manager said that you have to win every week just to stand still. We want to keep doing well in our home games, but you also can’t lose ground in those away matches.

'There are some of our promotion rivals to play on the road and matches against lower placed sides here at Fratton Park. But you can’t always predict which ones are going to be harder and they’re all opportunities for us to collect points.

'It’s a big seven days for us now and we should enjoy the challenge, while trying to make sure the performances and results are what we’re looking for.'

Andy Cannon, Ellis Harrison and Lee Brown could all be back in contention for places in the side after recovering from their respective injuries and illness.
