Pompey need more shutouts to gain the wins and points they need
Wednesday, 11th Mar 2020 14:23 by pompey-fans.com staff

More clean sheets please - that is Kenny Jackett's demand of his players after Pompey began their final set of 10 games by taking one point instead of three.

Sean Raggett and an own goal by Harry Souttar put the Blues 2-1 up after Barrie McKay's opener but Souttar soon levelled and that was the way it stayed - with both teams spurning chances to nick a 3-2 win.

Pompey moved up to fourth but with question marks over their away form it did feel like two points dropped at home.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'There haven’t been enough clean sheets. We all have a thirst to go forward, but that can only be 50 per cent of it. I don’t think we were really sound enough defensively and left ourselves too open in certain situations.

'Our full-backs were out to win and looking to run down the line before we even had the ball. If you don’t get your pass right or there’s a turnover, that makes it difficult. That meant it was an end-to-end contest and there were chances, as well as swings of 20-minute spells when each side looked on top.

'Fleetwood had the ascendency and looked like they were going to win, then we came back and it was like that throughout. We had to work harder to bring Andy Cannon into the game, although he did get on the ball more after dropping deeper alongside Tom Naylor.

'Everyone was hoping to win and we have to take a point, so it’s slightly frustrating from that point of view.'

Pompey have another two home games to come now - Accrington visit on Saturday followed by Doncaster next Tuesday.
