Consistency so important in tough League One, says Pompey star Thursday, 22nd Oct 2020 22:44 by pompey-fans.com staff Michael Jacobs has toasted his first Pompey goal - and challenged his teammates to put together a run of victories in the tough surroundings of League One. The recent recruit from Wigan added a second at Gillingham after John Marquis opened the scoring, as Pompey chalked up a 2-0 win that was much needed after the home defeat to Doncaster on Saturday. Jacobs said: 'It was obviously a disappointing result at the weekend, but we’ve come to a tough place in Gillingham and won. A lot of teams will get rolled over against them this season and we’ve played really well, creating a lot of chances. 'We’ve also looked solid at the back and kept a clean sheet away from home, so there’s not a lot more you can ask for. They’re quite a direct team and so we knew there would be opportunities for us on the counter-attack. 'This is a hard league and consistency is so important, so we want to get on a bit of a run and can hopefully build on this result at Sunderland. Jacobs has gone close to breaking his goal duck on previous occasions this season and was pleased to get off the mark. He added: “It was nice to get my first goal. It was a really nice team move and I was delighted to finish it off. It’s especially nice to get my first one for the club. I’m enjoying my time here and I’m feeling fit ahead of a busy run of fixtures. The matches are helping me massively.'
