Pitch problems could return to haunt Pompey Monday, 1st Feb 2021 18:59 by pompey-fans.com staff Pompey head back to The Valley on Tuesday - if the weather behaves better than it did at the weekend. The League One clash at Charlton's home - called off an hour before the scheduled kick-off because of a waterlogged pitch and ongoing rain - is due to be played on Tuesday evening. There are some doubts as to whether Tuesday's weather will leave the pitch in much better condition but both sides are keen to get the game played, facing as they do a heavy fixture list over the next couple of months. It's a vital game for both as they bid to piece together a run that will put them in the frame for automatic promotion. Pompey boss Kenny Jackett told The News: ‘I have looked at the forecast and it does seem there is rain forecast in London. Anyway, we’ll see. Hopefully they had a couple of days to work on the pitch and it is playable. ‘We understand why it has been arranged for this date. If you are looking at free Tuesdays, the next one is April, so this was the closest. It’s one of them where we just have to wait and see how it plays out tomorrow night.’ Jackett was supportive of ref Bobby Madley's decision to call off the game on Saturday, adding: ‘The pitch was tough because it was full up with rain and more was coming. If we’d have warmed up on that pitch and then come back to the dressing room and gone back out, it would have been heavy, there’s no doubt about that. ‘The problem we have is that we’ve only got a limited amount of time — and pitches are probably not going to be great for the next month or two.'
