Kenny Jackett admitted wins are all that counts in the League One promotion race - but he was at least heartened to see Pompey come back from the dead to claim a 2-2 draw againat Plymouth.
Ronan Curtis and James Bolton struck in the final few minutes after Luke Jephcott's double had put the Pilgrims on course for the victory.
The point is of course better than nothing but it does see the Blues lose ground on rivals including Lincoln, Doncaster and Peterborough.
Jackett told the club website: 'I thought we played pretty well overall and just couldn’t find that final pass to get us a goal in the first half. We were on top for the majority of the game and had a lot of corners, but you do need to score when that’s the case.
'Fair play to Plymouth, though, because they defended really well and made it hard for us all of the time. Jephcott’s the top scorer in the league and has got two more when they’ve really hurt us on the counter-attack.
'But credit to our players, who found a way to get back and it was a really spirited finish – we were unlucky not to have the ball fall for us in the box at the end. That fightback was led by Ronan and I’m really pleased, both for and with him. He gave us a real spark going up front.
'His finishing and physicality are big qualities. He went up alongside John Marquis and provided a threat. We want wins and that’s where the bar is already set, but we created a lot and there were some good individual performances.'
Pompey host Swindon on Tuesday then head to Crewe next Saturday.
