Rams Sign Moxey And He's Starving!
Saturday, 27th Jun 2009 14:09

Derby County has confirmed a deal for Exeter City defender Dean Moxey. He is the fourth signing for Clough in the recent weeks and the Rams manager believes his is 'hungry' for success.

The two clubs have agreed to a fee believed to be around £300,000 for the 23 year old. Moxey agreed to personal terms and a 3 year contract at the club on Friday with the deal to be completed on Monday.

On the same day the press reported many Exeter City fans are in mourning at the loss of their most famous fan in Michael Jackson (Exeter MJ link) , they will now also have to deal with losing one of their favorite players to another team.

Moxey is a left sided player who has been comfortable in defense and midfield for Exeter in back to back promotion campaigns that have taken his home town club into League Two.

After making his first appearance in 2003 Moxey has notched up over 190 games which included 24 goals for Exeter. He is rated very highly by fans of the club and has been instrumental in their recent success. The challenge now will for him to take the step up and show he can compete and in turn flourish at Championship level.

When interviewed about Moxey, Nigel Clough seemed excited about his latest signing:

"Dean is a very exciting player that we have known about for some time. He will bring a lot of hunger and desire. His attitude and character is spot on and he has expressed his aspiration to improve and fight for a place in our team".

"He is versatile and will provide us with cover down the left, either in defence or midfield."

Moxey himself also was enthusiastic when he spoke to the Derby Evening Telegraph:

“I’m an Exeter lad and I’ve loved my time there, I would only ever have left to go to a club I believed would give me the opportunity to progress my career to a higher level”.

"Derby has offered me a tremendous opportunity to do that and I’m grateful, I’ll give everything I’ve got to make a success of it here. The gaffer impressed me with his plans for the club and how he intends the team to play their football”.

"It’s a massive club that has huge potential and I’m looking forward to being part of a squad that will try to fulfill it. I can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season training.”

With pre-season training beginning at Moor Farm this Wednesday, Nigel Clough is finally beginning to land some of the players he wants as part of his squad he wants for the coming season.

It seems that Moxey is one player he believes will play an important part in his first full term as Derby County Manager.

Lets just hope when it comes to his appetite, Moxey's eyes and stomach are the same size.
