Mousinho striving to end Pompey season with a win and eighth place

John Mousinho has played down talk there's nothing to play for in the Pompey-Wycombe clash that brings down the curtain on the season on Sunday - insisting he wants to end the campaign with a win.

The winners will finish eighth in the final table and while that will not bring any reward in terms of a play-off place, Mousinho feels it's important to sign off on a high note.

'We are playing for that one spot and we know some people might say there’s not much difference between eighth and ninth," he told the club website. 'It’s really important for us, though, and so that’s certainly what we’ll be striving for against Wycombe on Sunday.

'Matt (Bloomfield) has done a good job in difficult circumstances, following on from someone who’s been there for 10 years. He’ll be trying to put his own mark on things and he’s a fantastic young manager. I see a promising career for him.'

Mousinho will also be welcoming director Eric Eisner to the camp - and will be pleased to do so. He added: 'It’s really good for him to come down to the training ground and get a feel of everything that’s going on.

'We want to tick off everything that’s going on over the summer — not just in terms of player recruitment, but also infrastructure improvements. It’s important for him to see the progress that’s being made and it’s great to have that relationship with the owners.'
