Key Pompey man happy to be scoring goals as well as stopping them

He was signed to stop goals rather than score them - but after scoring in successive home League One games - both at the Fratton End - Regan Poole admits he would not mind getting a few more.

Poole scored what proved the winner against Lincoln on Saturday, three weeks after getting a killer third to see off Peterborough.

He is enjoying the Blues' fine start to the season but says they need to keep up the momentum with games at Wigan and at home to Wycombe and Port Vale all within the next fortnight.

Poole told the club website how he got Saturday's winner: 'It was a really good ball in from Sparkesy and I held myself in the air for a fair amount of time and nodded it back across.

'I was really happy to score what was the winning goal, although obviously didn’t celebrate against my former club. A lot of the lads are still at Lincoln and it’s a real good group and coaching staff. I really enjoyed my time there.

'I could have had a few more goals this season, so I’m a bit disappointed – I hit the post when we played Cheltenham. But that’s two for me now at Fratton Park and hopefully I can have a good season in front of goal to help the team.'

Poole was pleased at the way the Blues recovered from letting in an early Lincoln goal to go on and claim the points.

'We showed great character to come from behind against a side that made it really difficult for us,' Poole said. 'We’d been dominating the game even if I hadn’t scored, but to go in for the break winning gave us that platform.

'It was a tough week with a lot of travelling and some really difficult games, so we were always going to tire towards the end. But we’re top of the league – and we’re there for a reason – while we could have more points on the board. The morale is good here and I believe we’ve got what it takes, but we need to keep our foot on the pedal.'
