Wilson and Goodman praise Pompey boss after monthly award Saturday, 14th Oct 2023 11:11 by Pompey-fans.com staff Football League judges and pundits have praised John Mousinho for Pompey's September form that won him the League One manager of the month award. Danny Wilson, who chaired the judging panel, and pundit Don Goodman both said the gong was well deserved after a month that brought four wins and a draw in League One. The manager himself was quick to share the plaudits, telling the club website: 'It’s great to receive this award on behalf of all the staff and players for our run of positive results throughout September. Three of our five fixtures last month saw us on the road, making long trips to Derby, Barnsley and Wigan. 'The fact that we were backed by so many passionate Pompey fans at each of those games is a big reason why we were able to collect seven points from them. We have made a really pleasing start to the season, but are all aware that there is still a very long way to go. Our focus now is on maintaining the high standards that we have set for ourselves.' Wilson, who chaired the judging panel, said: 'Thirteen points from their five games is an excellent return, especially after playing three of the well-fancied teams in that block. John has created a great spirit around the club which has seen them gain top spot in League One.' Goodman said: 'Portsmouth sit top of the table after a testing fixture list in September. Thirteen points from five games, beating Barnsley and Peterborough along the way, is a testament to the quality and organisation of John Mousinho’s team. 'It won’t have been part of his plans, but trailing in four of their five games and coming out unbeaten shows that Portsmouth, at this stage, look to have what it takes to make a long-awaited return to the Championship.'
