They're all getting goals - but Curtis is glad to be among them

After a scintillating goalscoring start to the season, Ronan Curtis had struggled for goals for the past few weeks. So he was relieved to end his own recent drought with the vital second goal in Pompey 2-0 win over Walsall.

It took him to seven for the season - meaning he is level at the top of the Blues scoring charts with Jamal Lowe (who set him up for his latest one), Gareth Evans and Oli Hawkins - they have seven each.

He told the club website: 'Thankfully the ball came to me at the right time from Jamal and I was able to put it in. I used my body to hold off the defender, swivelled and hit it. We’ve spoken about it in training — it’s getting your timing correct so you’re in the box at the right time.

'It’s great to be back on the scoresheet and it’s been a long time coming. Hopefully now the confidence is back up and I can get a few more from the team. We’ve all got a good relationship and we’re all getting goals. It’s taken a bit of time, but everyone is gelling.'

Curtis said Pompey's blend and team spirit had carried them to the summit of League One. He said: 'There’s a great chemistry around the training ground and that’s the reason why we’re top of the league. The confidence is flowing and you’re not going to lose that if you keep winning games. Hopefully we can keep it going.

'It was comfortable enough in the end against Walsall. We knew what we had to do and dug in deep to get the clean sheet and the win.'
