Despair at Dons' hands leave Jackett admitting it's not good enough

Kenny Jackett insisted he fully understood why Pompey fans are so frustrated at recent results - and admitted Tuesday night's home clash with Lincoln is massive.

A fourth away defeat out of six, a 1-0 loss to a late goal at AFC Wimbledon, left many calling for Jackett to go as feelings boiled over at the final whistle at Kingsmeadow.

The manager gave an honest post-match assessment although his admissions will not be enough for those who feel a change at the top is needed.

He told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: “The crowd are frustrated with the team and with me. I can here that and I can feel that. It’s a privileged position to be manager of such a fantastic club and I’m experienced to know that Tuesday night is key.

'The position we’re in is very frustrating and I can’t say we’ve got it right because things haven’t flowed for us. We have to look at some of the good things we’re doing, but also find an edge and that’s our responsibility.

'So we have to keep persevering and working hard. I think the players have good character and the ability is definitely there.'

He added: 'It’s very disappointing because we enjoyed the lion’s share of the game and had the ball in some very dangerous areas. There were obviously some chances that their keeper was equal to and we couldn’t quite make it happen in the final third.

'It’s such an important part of the game that you are incisive in those areas and we weren’t, despite controlling long periods. We didn’t make it pay and were then undone by a sucker punch right at the end. It looked like we gave Thomas a free run at it.

'It’s the zero going forwards rather than the one against that’s really cost us because we didn’t have the cutting edge. We’ve been on top in the past two matches and got one point out of six — that’s frustrating, but the bottom line is points.'
