Momentum at the Meadow - that's what Pompey need
Friday, 22nd Mar 2019 21:03 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey head to Shrewsbury this weekend looking - needing in fact - to keep up their recently rediscovered momentum to keep up the pressure on the three sides above them in the League One promotion race.

Wins over Bradford, Walsall and Scunthorpe have breathed new life into the Blues' efforts to finish in the top two, with Barnsley currently four points ahead of them going into Saturday's games.

Confidence is high in the Pompey camp as they travel to New Meadow to face the Shrews - one of about a dozen clubs still with work to do to stave off relegation - but striker Omar Bogle, who has scored in the past two and has scored four goals in total since his January arrival, says it's all about taking a step at a time.

Bogle told the club website: 'We’re just taking things game by game at the moment and know we’ve got enough quality to get the results we want. It’s the stage of the season now when every point matters and we’ve got to keep believing in our own ability.

'We’re trying to put pressure on the sides above us, but know that ultimately we have to take care of our own business. It’s all very well them losing, but if we haven’t won our game then it’s irrelevant. We need to look after ourselves.

'I had the little injury that kept me out of a few games, but I’ve come back and scored in successive games where we’ve won, so it feels amazing. Brett Pitman’s played in that role just behind me and when he gets on the ball, he’ll look for my runs. It’s been promising.'

Pompey are without Viv Solomon-Otabor, Andy Cannon, Ronan Curtis, Dion Donohue, Bryn Morris and Jack Whatmough, and may turn to Lloyd Isgrove to fill the wide left slot.
