Pompey fans buzzing more than usual for Walsall visit
Monday, 26th Nov 2018 22:14 by pompey-fans.com staff

We can't predict too much about what will happen when Pompey host Walsall on Tuesday night - but we do know that the Blues will end the night still top of League One.

That's because Saturday's win at Scunthorpe, added to points dropped by rivals, moved Kenny Jackett's men four points clear at the top. They've had bigger leads at the summit before now and will be only too aware the gap will soon be narrowed by one or more of the chasing pack if any slip-ups occur.

Pompey have been in better form away than at home for most of the campaign so far, but the fact you have to go back to October 20 to find their last victory at Fratton has more to do with the fact they have played only one home game since then than failed attempts to register another.

That was against Burton just over a month ago and it ended 2-2 and Pompey will be keen to make it three points, not just one, against a Walsall team who themselves could go as high as eighth with a win.

Boss Jackett can't wait to send out his in-form players to perform in front of their own fans under the Fratton lights, telling www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We need to capitalise on the home advantage provided by our crowd on Tuesday night. I’m sure they’ll be up for it and buzzing — even more so than usual. We have to give them a performance that gets them going.

'Our record so far this season has been particularly good and we’ve still only lost one game in the league. I understand when people differentiate between home and away form, although when you’re the manager you don’t focus on that too much.

'The schedule ahead is a big challenge and we’re under no illusion as to how hard we’re going to have to work, but we should be relishing it. These are the periods that you really want to be involved in and it’s up to all of us to rise to the occasion.'

Jamal Lowe and Gareth Evans should both be fit to start despite knocks that saw them fail to finish the win at Glanford Park.
