Pompey boss wants excitement and optimism as top teams visit

Kenny Jackett wants to see excitement and optimism from hid players as they welcome Peterborough to Fratton Park.

The clash with Posh starts a key run of games that will also see Ipswich and Wycombe come to Fratton Park, giving a good indicator of whether the Blues have what it takes to live with the top teams in the division.

Pompey are on an impressive run of form and Jacktett told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'The run that we’re on will give the players confidence and belief that what we’re doing is correct. It also tells them that the group — and it’s always about that rather than individuals — can be successful this season.

'We’ve given ourselves a chance and have to look forward now because we’ve got some big games coming up and a busy period at Christmas. We should be excited about that and also feel optimistic, while realising that we’ll have to work for every single point.

'If we can keep giving the players belief, then the crowd — who have been excellent — are going to get right behind them. Performances can be good, bad or indifferent, but the important thing is whether you get over the line.

'Ultimately, it’s only success that will build confidence and that’s such an important thing to have in this game.

'It (the Peterboro game) is as big a test as you’ll get in this league. When they get it right — as they do on many occasions — they’re a real threat. This will be a good barometer for us to see where we are against one of the best sides, who we all expect to do well this season.'
