Tougher test awaits Pompey at Doncaster as they try to build
Friday, 4th Oct 2019 22:37 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey picked up only their second win of the League One season last week against Bolton - but they face a sterner test this time out as they go in search of back-to-back victories which would give a different feel to the first couple of months.

Doncaster is their destination to face a Rovers team who are in the top half after four wins and only a single defeat from their opening nine matches.

A win at the Keepmoat could take the Blues up and around the mid-table pack and lift more of the gloom that had descended after a start that yielded just the one win from seven games before last week's victory, secured by Brett Pitman's header.

For Pompey Lee Brown is back in contention after returning from injury following six weeks out with an Achilles injury.

Kenny Jackett is under no illusions his side's away form needs to perk up quickly, after three defeats and a draw from their four away League One games so far.

He told the Pompey website: 'Doncaster have made a bright start to the season and have a very capable manager in Darren Moore. We understand that it’s going to be a difficult game against good quality opposition and we’ve lost three away games so far.

'You can look at any of those and think ‘what if’, but we’re not happy because we had a great record last season. So we need to look at ourselves and say that we have to start improving. The opposition doesn’t really matter — it’s about our own performance.

'We’re unbeaten at home and the game last week against Bolton was a building block, a step in the right direction. But we very much want to keep improving and put a run together that can send us up the League One table.'
