Jackett on the key moment in Pompey's win over Plymouth
Sunday, 2nd Sep 2018 20:37 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett pinpointed Pompey's second goal as the key to confirming their victory over an inferior Plymouth side.

Ronan Curtis had given the Blues a first-half lead with a close-range finish from Jamal Lowe's cross. But it was not until Curtis returned the favour with a left-sided cross nodded in by Lowe that Pompey looked comfortable winners.

Curtis then put the icing on the cake with a fine run and finish for number three and the poor old Pilgrims were well beaten.

Jackett told the media afterwards: 'We played very well and deserved to win. In the first 25-30 minutes we were absolutely excellent. A few injuries stopped us a bit, but we sorted ourselves out at the break, the substitutes came on and we went on to produce a comprehensive performance.

'We lost three players in the first half and yet I felt the ones coming on are as good as the ones that came off. The second goal was a really key one and from that point we were able to go on and win the game in style.'

The victory left Pompey second in the table ahead of next weekend's home game against Shrewsbury.

They face Gillingham in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.
