Pompey boss was worried about missed chances at Fleetwood

Kenny Jackett was worried Pompey ended the first half at Fleetwood goalless after creating chances.

But he had no need to fret after James Bolton and John Marquis scored within the space of a few minutes in the second half to set up their FA Cup third round victory.

Fleetwood pulled one back in injury time but Pompey held on to go into Monday evening's fourth round draw, where Jackett hopes they will be paired with a big club.

The manager told the club website: 'We played well and had some good chances in the first half, so I was a little disappointed to go in at 0-0. I thought we were on top — and you generally need to score when that’s the case. We did have the opportunities.

'But I’m pleased to say we got the key moments right after the break, which hasn’t always been the case this season. The two goals came from set-pieces and that’s very welcome. James has got in there a few times of late and not been able to finish, so I’m delighted for him.

'He’s certainly got the ability to do that and provided the crucial opener, while it was a real goalscorer’s goal from John. We really needed that second one because Fleetwood finished the game strongly, put some real pressure on us and we just couldn’t hold on.

'The cup competitions have been good to us since I’ve been here and we’re delighted to be in the hat for the next round. I’m looking forward to the draw. We’ve got through some difficult ties, so it would be great if we could get one of the big boys. Let’s hope it comes out well for us.'
