LFW Travel Guide — Leeds, Elland Road

Heavy snow forecasts must again put this game in doubt, but QPR are nevertheless ready to hit the road again this Saturday.

Ground Name: Elland Road

Capacity: 40,204

Address: Elland Road, Leeds, LS11 0ES

Main Telephone No: 0871 334 1919

Ticket Office No: 0871 334 1992

By Car:

Straight up the M1 for this one, with the usual warnings about taking it steady in inclement weather conditions. It’s pretty easy, if a bit of a trek. Simply join the M621 from the M1 at junction 43 and look out for the ground appearing on your left. Once you do take the next exit from the motorway and turn left onto the A6110 ring road then take the next left onto Elland Road. It’s about 193 miles, and three and a half hours at the speed limit, from Loftus Road.

Parking:

The ground is surrounded by large car parks, official and unofficial, all of which clear surprisingly quickly after the game – although admittedly last time I was here it was a Tuesday night game and there was nobody there.

By Train

Primarily this is an East Coast journey from Kings Cross to Leeds, although there is a possibility of going up the Midland Mainline from St Pancras. At this late stage with prices notoriously high between Leeds and London it’s whatever you can get for the price really. There are some £60 returns based on catching the 0710 or 0810 trains from Kings Cross, and going back at 1840 or 1922. If you’re heading up that line it may be worth splitting your ticket at Newark North Gate – you can save a tenner by doing that.

The ground is not walking distance from the station and will require a taxi, in plentiful supply outside the station, or a shuttle bus which again runs from the railway station regularly for £2.50 – come out of the station, cross the road, go down the steps to the main road and the bus leaves from the opposite side on your right.

By Coach The official club coach leaves Loftus Road at 8.30am and the usual spot at the Target roundabout at 9am. This is priced £31 for adults, £20 for seniors and young adults and £18 for juniors. There were 12 spots left on this bus on Monday so space is likely to be extremely limited, if available at all. The LSA is running two coaches from the Springbok at 8am, priced £30 full and £20 concessions. Text or call Luke on 07806 531 999 or Gary on 07951 423 341.

Pubs:

Most QPR fans end up drinking in and around the city centre, especially those that arrive by train, and there are literally hundreds of options with the Brewery Tap popular in previous seasons. Expect a high profile police presense around the station and the neighbouring pubs. Near the ground the Peacock is to be avoided, the Drysalters will be a mix of home and away fans with Sky and vile food, it will be extremely packed from very early in the day.

Tickets

Rangers had an initial allocation of 1,500 and had 450 of those left on Monday. It is unclear whether a further allocation will be made if they sell out. Ken Bates runs the show so it’s stupidly expensive - £29 adults, £19 seniors, £15 for under 16s. These are only on sale until lunchtime tomorrow (Thursday) before being returned for sale on the day subject to availability.
