Markism Today: Why should we shed tears over snubbed Rio?
Markism Today: Why should we shed tears over snubbed Rio?

I think under normal circumstances we might feel a bit different.

As the world buried one poigniant victim of external bad luck in love (Liz Taylor) the rumble over another broken heart goes on and on and on and on!

Poor Liz married eight times, poor Rio has played for just three-clubs however his ego has severely been bruised by losing the captaincy of his country to a philandering, money obsessed, offspring of a drug dealer.

I simply cannot be arsed to wiki dear Liz's eight husbands to see if any had Italian blood in them, but Fabio Capello is public-enemy number one for daring to reappoint John Terry to the captaincy and not even so much as phone crocked Rio to break the bad news to him.

That image of poor Rio has flashed around the globe a zillion times, there he is leaving the Main Stand at Old Trafford before the Bolton game gurning as if he had indeed been forced fed mighty shit sandwich (or Ciabatta) whilst Fabio blanked him and shook hands with dignitaries (if such thing exists in the Old Trafford Director's Box). It was not a pretty sight. As Hollywood Stars go, Ferdinand has more akin with Daffy Duck than Richard Burton.

No it was not nice, Terry is a lowlife scumbag - the only thing missing is a Red football shirt, but I have never forgiven the way Ferdinand engineered a move away from Leeds in the summer of 2002.

You could say he had insider knowledge that the club were on the verge of extinction. He was feathering his own nest, preserving his career because he knew that Venables was coming in as a firefighter and O'Leary's much vaunted, undelivering Babies were about to be sold off to the highest bidder - but FFS - he was our captain - the captaincy of Leeds United - following in the footsteps of greats like Bremner,Strachan and McAllister and he threw that away, or by my memory made extraordinary lengths to track down risible Ridsdale in the south of France and make sure the transfer went ahead ASAP.

Yes it was nine years ago, we should move on, but does any Leeds fan out there seriously feel sorry for him at the way he was treated by Capello and do you honestly think, after a nanosecond, he was really that bothered? He still has his millions - he is nothing more than yet another greedy, heartless Premiership footballer.
