Davies Could Stay at Derby Until January

Derby boss Nigel Clough says Town target Steve Davies could remain at Pride Park until January with no one yet having made an acceptable offer for the striker. The Blues have been after the former Tranmere man all summer but with boss Paul Jewell saying that the Rams asking price, believed to be £1 million, is beyond the club’s means at present.

Clough says that Davies, who has a year left on his contract but wants to move to a club in the south for family reasons, may be given a run-out in a friendly this week.

So far the striker has been left out to avoid him picking up an injury and he’s not joined the squad for a training camp, which coincidentally is being held in Suffolk.

The Rams boss said: “Nobody has really met our valuation. There will come a point where we will have to draw a line under it and he will be involved with us until at least January, but we haven't reached that point yet.

"If nothing has happened by early next week, we could see him play at Belper on Tuesday.

"We have to recognise the fact he might well be here until January, so we have to start getting him some games with a view to him being involved.”

Yesterday, Bristol City boss Derek McInnes ruled his club out of the running for the 24-year-old frontman.
