Its the big week, the start of the football season looms.

There hasnt been a dull moment at St Mary's this summer, so much so that the new season is almost upon us before we know it and to be blunt its a big step into the unknown.

There are two ways in which we saints supporters can approach the season, we can be defeated before we are started or we can look forward to change, I have to say though that judging by the West Ham game, the change looks positive.

Of course that is only one game, however the players on the field seem to have a positive mental attitude and what it needs now is the supporters to do likewise, if they feel that its too early to see whether that change is having a positive effect, then for the good of the team at least Saints supporters can have an open mind and give the squad a chance.

The Club is at the crossroads, last season was the worst in living memory, lets be blunt we havent had a season that bad in over 50 years and the performances were attrocious and despite the fact that in some quarters Nigel Pearson was accorded near god like status, in truth that seems to be based on one win over Sheffield United, apart from that, the odd game aside we were terrible under all three coaching/managerial set ups.

The fans were baying for new blood, they wondered why the likes of Euell, Wright etc etc were played week in week out whilst we had youngseters chomping a the bit, now we have a manager giving the fans what they want, the least we can do is give him a chance to prove himself.

Of course i have never believed that Rome was built in a day and neither will a Saints side with a solid base to challenge for promotion, but what I feel we have is the foundations to work on and those foundations can only get stronger as some of the youngsters get experience, as well as the club offloading some high earners, enabling a little experience to be brought in.

So lets be positive about this season, this Club is wallowing in self pity at the moment, the supporters can help turn it around by supporting the team, even if some fans feel unable to support Rupert Lowe, Southampton Football Club was here for 112 years before Rupert Lowe arrived and hopefully will be here for 112 years after, the club is bigger than anyone individual, we all need to be part of the solution to our problems not part of the problem itself.
