Trust Talk

Get Involved, Be Involved!

As ever, Swansea City Supporters Trust is reliant on new faces and volunteers to help them along. Although the Trust Board is, in the main, made up of elected members, at any one time we can also have four co-opted members on the board. We currently have two board members who were co-opted in Jim White and Becky Jones and they have been invaluable to us with their work this year.

However, we are always keen to hear from new people who think they could get involved and therefore we are asking our membership if anybody would be interested in taking a co-opted place on the Trust Board. As a co-opted member you will be expected to provide the same assistance as elected members, the only difference being you will not be able to take a position of 'office' unless you subsequently become elected at a later date.

The Supporters Trust was formed back in 2001 and grew rapidly in size mainly due to the arrival of Tony Petty and the crisis that evolved from his arrival. During our almost five years in existence we have grown to be one of the largest Trusts in the UK as well as being involved in endless projects in both the community and for the benefit of the club. The list below is not exhaustive but a good cross section of what we have achieved in that time

  • A Supporters representative on the board. Leigh Dineen is vice chairman of the club and works tirelessly for the club free of charge. It should never be forgotten that he is the Trust representative first and foremost. In addition we also have Huw Cooze as an Associate Director of the football club and it was agreed at a recent AGM that the Trust could also appoint a director to Swansea City 2002 Ltd - the holding company of the football club.
  • The Ivor Allchurch statue outside the Liberty Stadium was the brainchild of the Trust and all funding was secured through Trust activities
  • The Trust was heavily involved in both the Alan Curtis testimonial and the End of an Era weekend to commemorate the end of our time at the Vetch
  • Fans Liason Committee - the Trust has set up and runs a fan's liason committee with members of STADCO to discuss and hopefully resolve fan's concerns
  • West Wales Transport and Kids go Free - both schemes were Trust led with the concept being that fans of all ages can find it easier to come to their football club
  • A £100,000 shareholding in Swansea City. A massive part played in securing the future of our football club
  • Fundraising activities and events including quiz nights, golf days, horse racing nights, fans forums, bowling nights and much more
  • The Vetch Box set was as the result of a very heavy Trust involvement

As mentioned, the list is not exhaustive but a very timely reminder of what we have done on a volunteer basis during our time. Building on that takes time and effort, hence why we are always looking for new volunteers.

If you would like to put your name forward to become a co-opted member of the Trust board then please get in touch with us via

  • Phone - 07977 382328
  • Post - 57 St Helens Road, Swansea, SA1 4BE
  • E-mail - psumbler@swanstrust.com

Elections for the Trust board will also take place in the summer if you would prefer to wait to try and become an elected member. The Trust relies on volunteers to survive and grow, please do help us build on the good work we have already achieved.

The Supporters Trust will continue to reply on its members and volunteers to survive and achieve its aims and goals, the most important being ensuring the football club flourishes and remains close to its community in doing so.

West Wales Transport

It's with great pleasure that we had 48 people on the bus to the Liberty Stadium for the last game against Bournemouth. This is the kind of support that the transport scheme needs to survive. Please continue to support this where possible and remember that with the bus becoming fuller we do need you to pre-book ahead of your trip - call Debs on 07977 382328. Further queries on West Wales Transport should be directed to John young on jyoung@swanstrust.com

The Text Club

A reminder to all that the Text Club service is now available for Trust members to join. Membership of the Text Club is free and in return you will receive text messages offering you special deals at a number of high street outlets. For each message you receive, the Supporters Trust will benefit to the cost of 1p. You can join the Text Club on-line at www.thetextclub.co.uk or by sending a text message stating "Join postcode age sex name" to 07624 803310. e.g join sa11as 28 m joe bloggs.
