"A Very Proud Day" Declares Kris
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2008 07:28

Kristian O'Leary declared his testimonial match at the Liberty Stadium as a "very proud day for him and his family"

O'Leary was speaking after the Swans 0-0 draw with the Premiership new boys in a match that marked his 13 years at Swansea and a match in which he just played fourteen minutes.

There were just twelve on the clock when Roberto instructed Darren Pratley to strip to replace the main man of the day - a reasoning that was later explained as being down to a bout of flu - the same flu that had laid low both Fedo Bessone and Leon Britton for the game,

Speaking to the official site after the game, O'Leary said "It was a very proud day for me and my family, it's a shame I wasn't able to play longer, but if it wasn't for the fact that it was my own Testimonial I wouldn't have played at all.

"I picked up a virus on Thursday and spent all Friday in bed. To be honest, I feel rough, but I wouldn't have missed it.

"I think my children were a bit taken aback by it all and I'd like to thank the fans of both sides for making my day special. Because I'm a local boy as well, it makes it even more special.

"It's been a great day; nice weather and two good sides on display. It was a shame there were no goals, but I thought we played better football than the Premiership side.

"This is the best squad I've ever played with since I've been at the club. We took 28 players to Spain last week and every single one of them is capable of playing in the Championship.

"We are coming really good at the right time.

"I'll continue to work hard every day to get as many games under my belt as I can.

"I feel as fit as I ever have.''

Well apart from the virus that is.

"I've got a big night planned with family and friends at a local hotel tonight. I'll probably be off to bed though while they are partying, so they'll have to come and see me there,'' he joked.
