Ashley Williams declares that he will not be scared by Championship strikers this season

Williams - Swansea's record buy - was speaking after playing a full part in the Swans 0-0 draw against West Brom at the Liberty yesterday - a performance that could see him propelled into the starting line up against Charlton at the Valley next weekend.

And that is one of the things that Williams struggles to believe as the last twelve months have seen him leap from a League Two player to a Championship player and a regular Welsh international to boot.

But it has not always been that way as Williams reveals that he used to do a host of part time jobs to pass the time when his football career was just starting.

Speaking in today's News of the World, William said "I did various jobs from working in a theme park, helping out at the local bowling alley to working as a waiter.

"They were jobs to kill the time because all I wanted to do was play football.

"But of course at times when you are serving food in a restaurant it does cross your mind that you will be doing this for ever.   I do have to pinch myself at times and realise I'm very lucky as lots of players don't come back up from non-league.

"I could never dream I would be playing in the Championship along with international football so quickly.  It's been a bit of a whirlwind but I'm loving every minute.

"I'm confident in my ability.  The gaffer wouldn't have bought me if he didn't think I could do it.   I've never played at this level before - I don't know the players and they don't know me.

"It may be a bit of a learning curve but I've just got to put the work in.  I'm not going to be scared by strikers in the Championship."
