Joe Ledley believes it is about time that Cardiff got one over on their local rivals in the derby clash

Swansea City and Cardiff City lock horns again next weekend for the second time this season - although many believe that it may not be the last with both sides looking set to take part in the end of season play offs.

Cardiff's recent upturn in form combined with the Swans downturn may have levelled off the two point tallys but there is belief in both camps that the season will extend beyond the first weekend in May and that in itself could lead to the biggest derby in history between the two sides

But for now, Ledley - who misses next week's clash - will settle for a Cardiff victory, believing it has been too long since they have had one.

He told Wales on Sunday "It would be great to be out there playing Swansea in the Championship play-offs.

“Both clubs can make the play-offs and meet in the semi-finals – or even the final at Wembley! Now that would be amazing.

“But let’s face it, it’s about time we beat Swansea.

“Every time we’ve played them it seems to have been a draw or a defeat.

“But the lads are right up for this one. We know what beating Swansea means to every Bluebirds fan.

“Fair play to Swansea, I didn’t expect them to do as well this season as they have,” he said.

“But they have stuck at it.

“Their manager Paulo Sousa has done a good job and the players have kept challenging in the right areas.

“And while I obviously want Cardiff to come out on top, it’s good to see two Welsh clubs challenging at the right end of the table.

“It’s a real six-pointer for both clubs and with the quality we have in the team, particularly now that Stephen McPhail and Peter Whittingham are back from injuries, we have every chance to earn the win we need."
