Two Weeks To The Big Kick Off
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2014 08:54

Saints have two weeks till they kick off against Liverpool and make no mistake its going to be a crucial fortnight.

So far its been a question of five out and three in as Saints look to enter a new era under Ronald Koeman, the club have stated that Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez will not be leaving so hopefully in terms of departures there will be no more, however the squad as a whole needs to be strengthened beyond just bringing in a couple of more players.

The next week or so will therefore hopefully be a busy time, certainly the club has been linked with a host of players and Ronald Koeman himself has said he is confident of landing two or three players in the next few days, but now is the time to bring those players in, yes we have two weeks but sooner rather than later would be preferable.

Two incoming players would restore the squad back up to size, however the truth is last season Pochettino neglected the squad as a whole preferring to concentrate on a core group of 15/16 players with others only playing due to injury.

That is why apart from some marque signings I would also like to see some decent players being sourced who although may not be regarded as first choice now may well be in the near future, I would like to see a squad that is competitive right down to virtually the 25th place, not just the 15/16 aforementioned.

But in the meantime the next 12 days or so will really shape the season and more to the point will go a long way towards restoring the confidence and optimism of the supporters, not to mention the enthusiasm, something that has taken a severe dent in the past two months.

We are in the stinky stuff at the moment. Hopefully, it will prove to be a good fertiliser and make the club stronger from which we can grow and compete on a higher level. At this stage, I'm not too bothered about a "Marque signing". I'd just like to see some good players that come in and want to play for our club who aren't mercenary. Not to use us for a season as a stepping stone. We need to have a good team foundation for the start of the season or I fear it may be a long, tough one ahead. You have to hit the ground running. COYR!!
