Exciting Times Up Front
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2014 09:13 by Planet Swans (Follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

I am sure that I cannot be the only one who is getting increasingly excited about heading into a Premier League season with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bafetimbi Gomis and Wilfried Bony leading the Swans line.

With those three you cannot help but think that there are 40+ league goals between them coming and it certainly seems as if they are gelling quickly in pre-season if the early signs are anything to go by.

Of course there is a world of difference between piecing it together pre-season and when the season actually starts (remember Gorka Pintado?) but it is looking good especially with the form of Sigurdsson in particular who I have mentioned on these pages before now I think is probably our best signing of the summer.

I must admit I have not seen any of the pre-season games to date live but watching the highlights and goals that have been published we seem to be cutting through some of our opponents with ease but more pleasingly with pace that was sometimes sadly lacking not just under Michael Laudrup but also Brendan Rodgers at times too.

I certainly don't see us struggling for goals this season so long as we keep our own terrific trio fit and there is every chance of that and considering the total transfer fees to us for the three comes to about £20-£25m (depending on what you actually believe we paid for Wilf and how you calculate the Gylfi deal) then it seems a snip when you consider the cost of an average Southampton player these days.

And I certainly know I am not the only excited one with Gylfi himself joining in the accolades that are going around at the moment “Bony and Gomis could be very dangerous. I don’t think many centre-backs will want them two running at them,” said Sigurdsson after yesterday's 3-1 win at Reading

“Gomis took his goal well, so hopefully he can continue to improve and stay amongst the goals.”

You have to look at Wilf for this season as being ready for the full 38 games and when you consider the damage he did last season when on top form after Christmas you do wonder whether he is a real outside contender for the golden boot this season which I suspect is where there is some Swans fans money being placed.

Of course we should never count chickens before they are hatched and as said previously it is only pre-season at the moment which can lead you to believe that it is slightly better than it is but we are just two weeks away from the opening game of the season and we can look forward with optimism at what lies ahead of us.

The Swans welcome Villareal to the Liberty next Saturday for the last of those pre-season games and that I think will give us a great chance to see the likely line up for the opener at Old Trafford and I certainly at this point in time would not bet against Gylfi, Gomis and Bony all playing especially given their current form.

Exciting times indeed.
