Rodriguez Will Still Be Eased Back In
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 09:10

Despite his stunning goal against Espanyol Ronald Koeman will not be rushing Jay Rodriguez back into competitive action.

Ronald Koeman is fortunate in that he does not need to rush Jay Rodriguez back into the first tam in the Premier League, with all of his other four forward options having goo pre seasons culminating in the game against Vitesse when Pelle & Long both scored and Sadio Mane and Junami both provided assists the Dutch manager knows that he does not need to panic up front.

That means he can ease Jay Rodriguez back into competitive action rather than hrow him in before he is ready both mentally and physically, Koeman knows it could be a very long season, especially if we have good cup runs and a Europa League group stage place and that he needs everyone fit.

Quoted in the Daily Mirror Koeman said.

"It's been a long time for Jay. The start of the season will come too quick for him.

"He scored a great goal and he played 90 minutes but in moments of the game you see he still needs more rhythm of play. That is normal as he was out a long time."

The Dutch manager knows that it would be too easy to throw Rodriguez in to a competitive game too early and that could cost Saints dear later in the season, better to ease him in now and hopefully see him able to complete the whole season and not pick up niggling injuries.

On the face of it Rodriguez looks fit and raring to go, but the reality is that it is easy to play 90 minutes here and there but that doing that week in week out without being brought up to the correct fitness level first could see the striker pick up niggling injuries that could persist throughout the entire season. Footballers are like Marathon runners, they need to have a certain level of core fitness that can only be gained by putting in the miles so to speak and after such a long time out you cant just get that under your belt in six weeks of pre season.

The good news though is that Jay is back and scoring goals, he looks to be sharp, he just needs to build up that fitness level and get that true match stamina needed.
