Huish Park, Yeovil - Travel Guide
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 20:45 by Clive Whittingham

QPR’s annual humiliation at the hands of a lower league outfit in the early rounds of the League Cup takes place at Yeovil Town next Tuesday. If you’re going, read on…

Ground Name: Huish Park

Capacity: 9,665 (5,212 seated)

Address: Lufton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8YF

Main Number: 01935 423 662

By Car:

Head out of town on the M3 towards Southampton, and leave at junction eight to join the A303. Long old 70 mile trek on that road past Andover and all the way down to the outskirts of Yeovil. The ground is on the outside of the town and well signposted from the A303 but essentially take the A3088 from the Cargate Roundabout, follow that for four miles to the roundabout at Westlands Airfield. Turn left and continue until you pass Asda and then the ground appears on the left. It’s 130 miles and two hours 25 minutes at the speed limit.

Parking:

Good news — lots of parking at the ground, and really cheap at just £2 a car. Bad news — it takes an absolute age to clear afterwards. That’s right, it’s Northampton Town all over again — second reading of the classified football results and you’re still in the car park. An additional warning, if you arrive late in the day expect to be placed in an overspill car park which is a field and can be a bit of a nightmare in wet weather. Copious amounts of street parking available if you don’t fancy any of that.

Train:

Waterloo direct to Yeovil Junction or Paddington to Pen Mill Junction — both quite a distance from the ground (Pen Mill three miles, Yeovil Junction five) which means a taxi or bus is required rather than walking. Bus number 68 runs from both stations into the town centre and the First Traveller No. 1 service goes from the town to the Abbey Manor Park housing estate next to the ground every 15 minutes. Taxi firms in Yeovil took advance bookings for our last visit and packed the station car park waiting for the QPR fans to arrive.

Of course, no train back after a midweek game so if you’re doing it by train you’re looking at an overnight stay. £59.50 cheap day returns the cheapest tickets left at this stage.

Coach:

The official coach leaves Loftus Road at 14.00 and the Target Roundabout at 14.30. Costs are £27 adults, £17 for the disabled, the over 60s and the under 21s, £15 for the under 16s. Season ticket holders get £2 off.

The LSA will run a coach if there is sufficient interest so get in touch ASAP. The price is £25 for adults, the bus leaves the Springbok at 14.00 and anybody interested should call Gary immediately on 07506 028 189.

Pubs:

If you’re busing it from the train stations then the No.68 and the No. 1 connect at Lloyds Bank in the middle of town and The Mermaid pub nearby comes highly recommended for beer and food. The Arrow and The Airfield are nearest to the ground, with The Arrow offering food, Sky Sports and a mix of fans but carrying mixed reviews from previous visitors.

Tickets:

Rangers have 530 seats priced £18 adults, £13 over 65s and 16-21, £5 for under 16s. There are 500 terrace tickets remaining priced £15, £11 and £5. These are now on general sale with 10 loyalty points on offer for advanced purchase.
