Madrid confirm Parejo QPR loan
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2008 21:07

Real Madrid have tonight confirmed that their 19 year old attacking midfielder Daniel Parejo will spend the coming season on loan at Queens Park Rangers

QPR are holding a press conference at Loftus Road tomorrow lunch time where this signing is expected to be confirmed however Real Madrid have published a short statement on their official website stating that the youngster will indeed be playing for QPR next season.

This is an incredible signing really all things considered and, with due respect to the players signed so far, is the first real example of our wealthy owners flexing their muscles in the transfer market.

Flavio Briatore’s friendship with Real’s president Ramon Calderon and the Spaniard attended last season’s league game against Blackpool at Loftus Road . Briatore told the Times: “Real Madrid believe he is important for the future and they trust QPR to take him for one year or two years to assist in his development and, of course, it will be good for QPR and good for the Championship.

“For me, it is very important to deal with people you trust. I had lunch with Parejo and Ramon Calderon two months ago in Madrid and we reached an agreement. It will be fantastic for QPR and for the Championship. It will make things even more interesting.”

Parejo is a 19 year old attacking central midfielder or striker who has progressed through the ranks at the Bernabeu and is rated by Spanish footballing legend de Stefano as the best young prospect in the country. He has spent his senior career to date playing for Real Madrid’s B-side in the Spanish Segunda Division scoring one goal in four starts in 2006/07 and ten goals in 33 appearances last season. He has also been capped by Spain seven times at Under 19 level – scoring two goals in the process.

With rumours about his impending loan move to QPR spreading like wild fire at the end of last week those R’s fans that weren’t at the Chievo game probably paid slightly more attention to Madrid’s friendly with Hamburg at the Emirates Stadium than they might otherwise have done – Parejo scored the winner for Madrid in a 2-1 success against the Germans, heading the decisive goal five minutes from time.

Parejo said last week: “My ambition is growing at Real Madrid and I think being out for a year and then returning to Real can be good to become a complete player. QPR want me for one more season if they get promoted to the Premier League but this would only be possible if Real Madrid don’t want me back. I’m hopeful it’s going to be fine for me. This is a big chance and I hope I can profit from this opportunity."

Parejo is hot property around Europe at the moment with Arsenal strongly linked to a £10m move for him in January which makes it all the more remarkable that he will be plying his trade in the Championship next season with Queens Park Rangers.
