Simpson eyes Arsenal future, Buzsaky makes team of the week – evening news

Jay Simpson has been talking about his future at Arsenal after scoring his eighth goal of the season for QPR against Coventry on Saturday. Akos Buzsaky got the other against the Sky Blues and made the division’s team of the week.

Simpson has made a huge impact since arriving on loan from the Gunners in August, bagging eight goals and carving out a niche for himself as a lone striker in Jim Magilton’s team. Following his eighth goal of the season against Coventry on Saturday and the news that Robin Van Persie has been ruled out for five months at The Emirates there has been speculation today that he can be recalled, despite his loan being season long that I was always under the impression did not include a recall clause.

Anyway Simpson has told various news agencies today: “This is helping my development and I want to play at the top level. At the moment Arsenal have a lot of injuries so if I was back there, who knows. When I play I'm always confident I'll score - even if it was in the Premier League. I am with Rangers for the season. There is a call back but I don't know if it will be used. I'm in touch with Arsenal and I know they come to all the home games but I'll just focus on my stuff. Scoring obviously can't have done my chances any harm and I'm still really close with the young guys at Arsenal.”

Akos Buzsaky was the other QPR scorer at the weekend, hammering home a deflected shot from a partially cleared corner midway through the second half. I actually felt Buzsaky was probably the poorest of our midfielders against Coventry but the goal was enough to seal him a place in the division’s team of the week – which certainly seems to be based on goals and clean sheets above actual performances.

Team: Julian Speroni (Palace), Danny Simpson (Newcastle), Richard Wood (Coventry), Wes Morgan (Forest), Bruno Berner (Leicester), Chris Brunt (West Brom), Akos Buzsaky (QPR), Richie Wellens (Leicester), Jerome Thomas (West Brom), Darius Henderson (Sheff Utd), Marlon Harewood (Newcastle)

Elsewhere in the division today Crystal Palace’s money woes continue with news that players and management have been asked to defer their wages for ten days. Adriano Basso’s future at Bristol City is in doubt after he was banished from the squad before the weekend game with Sheff Utd for stating in the media that he is available for transfer in January. The Brazilian, a former Championship keeper of the year, was transfer listed in the summer after refusing to sign a new contract. Reading’s Brian Howard faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken jaw.
