Micky Adams: 'Not Sentimental' Over Tommy Fraser...

Vale Boss Micky Adams has spoke to The Sentinel about Skipper Tommy Fraser. Our 22-year-old Captain has been unable to regain his position in the centre of midfield, with the current pairing of  Gary Roberts and Anthony Griffith way ahead of him in the pecking order. Fraser has recently been playing on the right side of midfield, and although Tommy insists that he is happy to play anywhere under Adams, is clearly a 'square peg in a round hole' out on the wing.

"I'm not going to get sentimental over Tommy. If I feel he's not doing the job I want him to, then he won't play. But he's a massive part of my team, and that's why he's my captain."

The  above is a quote from Micky Adams in the interview. It does contradict itself, not that Micky Adams would worry to much about it as he is an experienced purveyor of the no-nonsense-straight-down-the-line Manager speak. Do you remember him putting the whole squad on the transfer list last season?

Anyway, to dissect this particular quote on the one hand Adams feels that Fraser is wholly expendable - the first two sentences - then follows that up with the statement that Fraser is a "massive part of my team..."

I guess it would be wrong for Adams to publicly say that Tommy is only going to get a game through key players been injured or suspended as he is not good enough for a place in the starting line up, although this is the truth that most of us have realised for some time. But, as I've asked before, how long will Adams tolerate a Captain who can not force his way into the starting line-up?
