Oxford Game Matchday Thread

Bazunu was doing what he’s an absolute expert at, being beaten by a diagonal ball across him low to the ground. It matters not whether it’s from his left or his right, he goes down every time as if he is wearing old fashioned lead deep sea diving boots.

He’s a half decent reaction keeper ( then again at professional level they all are ) who can play with his feet. Given time to think about anything and he is just exceptionally poor.

Every man and his dog ( except Nick apparently ) can see we need a new keeper but no, this is Sports Republic who won’t replace him, or for that matter buy a decent striker, preferring to hope that sick note Stewart will come good when all the evidence of the last two and a half years proves he won’t.

Did we appoint Tonda too early?
at 17:37 26 Dec 2025

Southamptonfan, you and I were the only ones who said it from day one about Still.

I didn’t comment about Tonda, wishing at least to give the fella a chance but it grieves me to say it the doughnuts who own and run the club appear to have made the same mistake again.

The only other feasible explanation is that the experienced players at the club are running the club from the dressing room up rather than the other way around.Player power did for Still and I won’t be at all surprised that it will do it for Tonda.

As I pointed out when Still was appointed, experienced players ask a new manager when things are going wrong, “ where are your medals ?”. If you have none to show them they quickly revert to their previous easy street comfort zones with losing games being an acceptable result.

Oxford 2-1 Southampton.Pathetic, utterly and completely pathetic.
at 17:16 26 Dec 2025

That’s three away games on the bounce that we’ve thrown points away.

Millwall, just about acceptable given their league position.

Norwich, you could make a case that all teams miss penalties.

But today it was Oxford for pity sake, a team of players nobody has ever heard of and a ground with only three sides.

We spent the whole game playing side to side and backwards football and had 70% possession in areas where Oxford just couldn’t have given a damn.

When we do manage to get forward, playing stuff from the Russell Martin playbook our forwards confirm (not that any confirmation was necessary) that they simply can’t hit a barn door with a banjo.

The new manager clearly hasn’t any clue about tactics or substitutions, once again taking off players who were at least trying and replacing them with no hopers like Archer.

To add insult to injury Bazunu gets beaten from a mile out yet again.

Commiserations to the fans who made the trip, at least you didn’t have far to travel.

Oxford Sack Coach

The world gets ever more difficult to understand.

Oxford sack their coach two days before Christmas which must be absolutely wonderful (not) for him and his family at the same time as Bet365 latest annual accounts are released, showing one person ( the owner ) was paid over £200 million in salary and dividends.

To Sports Republic credit we are now at least sponsored by a cruise company rather than any hideous gambling organisation.

Tonda is doing a great job
at 12:40 21 Dec 2025

Absolutely Heisenberg.

It’s unfortunate for him that he’s also inherited a situation where realistically, due to no fault of his own, automatic promotion is almost certainly now out of the question.

What was noticeable to me yesterday was how much stronger the Coventry players were both physically and mentally than us. Effectively a man short at half time they gave it everything to hang on to a result.

Contrast that with our last two away performances where we folded in both second halves and ended up with nothing.

A new manager can dictate tactics and substitutions but at the end of the day his players must “ want it”.

That’s why Coventry are walking the league and we are, despite spending £50 million in the last window, merely playoff hopefuls.

Why Is There So Much Hate On Saints Social Media
at 06:07 16 Dec 2025

Nick, I can’t comment about other internet sites because I don’t read or contribute to any of them.

I restrict my interest to your site and do so because one of the attractions is that although contributors sometimes have widely differing views on The Saints and a variety of other subjects, there is very little bad mouthing.

In reference to football in particular. All that the various sites have achieved is to allow people to do is express their opinions in public where as pre internet the same opinions were being expressed in pubs and clubs.Probably with liberal use of the bad language to which you suggest.

Should your site ever become infested with genuine hate as you put it, I suspect that I won’t be alone in disconnecting my interest.

Much like the majority of absolutely mind numbing rubbish on T V, power still remains with the user.

If you don’t like it turn it off.

Spot on Grumpy and Grim.

Utterly ridiculous expecting Fraser to be involved in any sort of defensive duties.

There’s a very good reason he is known as “ the wee man “.

Point taken about the food.

I was more concentrating on your mild moan up about the early start.

Unfortunately it is what it is now, and the only way round it is to watch on TV I suppose ?

It’s a pity that the rivalry between us can’t be more like Liverpool and Everton’s.

Who knows, one day in the distant future it may well be.

It is possibly over the top Southampton fan.

However, on the other hand it’s only one match and if it stops you or anybody else ending up in A and E because some loony Portsmouth fan wants to pick you out for a kicking is it not the sensible way to go ?

Equally, it greatly reduces the chances of some over zealous Hampshire Plod arresting fans for no reason in particular, ending in them having a completely unnecessary criminal record with all the problems that go with it.

As for getting up early. I don’t go to away matches anymore ( to old ) but last time we played Leeds away didn’t the coaches leave at 04.30 for a 12.00 kick off ?

West Brom Supporters Coach attacked
at 18:27 10 Dec 2025

What on earth is a matter with anyone who thinks it a good idea to throw a brick at a coach ?

Particularly after a good match where W B A contributed on the pitch and with their fans being as far as I could tell, good natured in defeat.

Utterly moronic behaviour from a pathetic knuckle dragging village idiot.

I believe the official attendance was 26865.

Looking around the stadium and given that this figure would include season ticket holders who didn’t turn up together with a lack of W B A fans,I would suggest that the actual number was nearer to 25000.

Understandable given the game was the second played at home in a week and on a school night just before Christmas plus also shown on TV. Not forgetting the filthy weather during the day.

I thought that when I went to Highbury to see Saints play Everton in an F A Cup Semi Final in the early eighties.

We were flying in the league and had some high quality players, Everton were mediocre at best.

Another Wembley final was a formality.

Couldn’t lose.

Big Mac played Steve Williams when he wasn’t fit and we lost to an Adrian Heath header in the final few minutes.

Biggest post match fight I’ve ever seen with police horses on the pitch after the final whistle.

I’ve never taken any game we play in for granted from that day onward.

Yep, that’s Bazball for you.

Just a ridiculous name for impatient slogging by a team that apart from Root and Stokes ( when he applies himself ) are at best average and at worst no hopers.

And we are being humiliated by an under strength Australia at that.

Bazunu has been beaten with shots from outside of the box more times than I care to remember.

It can’t be coached out of him apparently and that’s one of the reasons why he is simply not good enough.

I once watched it avidly, not any more however because It’s now over hyped nonsense.

I believe I’m correct in saying that a couple of weeks ago two cars were disqualified after a race because the wooden skid boards under them were not thick enough.

When tested the discrepancy was found to be the thickness of a human hair or so it was suggested.
