What do you think of the prices for the Torquay Carling cup game ?
The early rounds of the Carling Cup are usually played in the last weeks of the school summer holidays and although some supporters will be away on holiday its a great chance to get kids into the games at a cheap price and get them hooked.
Saints have just announced the price for the visit of league 2 Torquay United will be £14 for adults, £10 for seniors and young adults and £5 for under 17's.
In truth a little like the prices for the coming league season the prices arent excessive but just a little bit over what it should have been priced at to sell, in sales and marketing everything is about the customers perception about the price and the deal they are getting, from this point of view perhaps a slight reduction in prices with very cheap prices for say Under 10's could have brought a lot more youngsters in and we all know that even if a kid doesnt get what he wwants in the Saints megastore he will probably get a programme plus a coke etc from the snack bars.
As I said i dont thik they are overly excessive, but if they had been prices at say £12 for Adults, £7.50 for concessions including 11-17 year olds and then perhaps £2 for kids as they have done in the past, then its suddenly seen as a bargain, a Father taking his two kids instead of paying £24 pays £16 which means that perhaps he takes a couple of his kids mates as well, perhaps his wife tags along because £32 for two adults and two kids is a real bargain and will be perceived as such.
This isnt a dig at Saints after all they have virtually halved the prices for the game compared with League games and for some seats its under half price, but with just a little more thought this could have been turned into a real family fun evening to get the younger generation hooked on Saints
I still remember my first Saints game, I want the youngsters of the Southampton area to fall in love with this club as well and the way to do that is with a healthy big crowd at St Mary's
