Maldon & Tiptree 0 U's 4

Colchester United have won their opening pre-season fixture, beating Maldon & Tiptree 4-0, with goals from John-Joe O'Toole, Ashley Vincent, Craig Arnott and Ian Henderson.

As is often the case with early pre-season games, the U's fielded a different eleven for each half.

O'Toole opened the scoring poking home from close range within the first ten minutes and it wasn't until just before half time that they doubled their lead when Vincent chipped the keeper. Anthony Wordsworth had a goal ruled out for offside in between, after getting on the end of a Kayode Odejayi knock down.

First year pro Craig Arnott scored the U's third around 75 minutes, with a volley from a Henderson chipped cross, and it was Henderson who scored the fourth just before the end of the game, driving in a shot from outside of the area.

A comfortable victory for United, who will fly to Holland on Saturday, ahead of their next friendly at SDC Putten on Monday.

First half: Williams, White, Hamilton, Baldwin, Coker, O'Toole, Izzet, Wordsworth, Vincent, Odejayi, Olufemi.

Second half: Cousins, Wilson, Eastman, Bender, Rose, James, Sanderson (Stewart), Henderson, Ladapo, Gillespie, Arnott.
