Stats Showed Town's Dominance at Cardiff

Blues boss Paul Jewell was delighted with the way his team played at Cardiff on Saturday, just disappointed that they didn’t seal the three points when they were on top. The Town manager’s viewpoint was borne out by the post-match statistics.

Jewell said: "For large periods of that game on Saturday we played really, really well. We didn’t start great and they finished strongly but in between we should have had the game sewn up.

"I was looking at the stats. We had 300 passes to their 180, we had 19 shots on target, we had 57% possession. So as far as the game went football-wise we dominated it."

Impressive stuff against a side Jewell says he rates: "Cardiff have drawn with Leicester and beaten Southampton in their last two games, so they’re a good team.

"To be fair, we should have sewn the game up, we had chances when we were 2-1 up and had chances to see the game off but didn’t and the way their goal came about was horrible because it definitely wasn’t a penalty.

"But you bounce back, and even then we had a really well worked freekick and Carlos Edwards could have scored right at the end.

"Although they came at us and knocked the ball into our box, we defended and we kept trying get the third goal. It was important for us not to lose like any game.

"There are going to be some games where we do lose, but certainly at the minute we’re looking to try and win every game.”

Despite the recent upturn, the Town manager says no side can perform for 90 minutes every week: "I think we have to be careful. We’re not going to dominate games from the first whistle to the last. There are going to be times when we come under pressure, there are going to be times when we don’t play well.

"I think the key to a team being successful is that when they don’t play great they still get something out of the game.”
