McCormack set to stay?

Having failed to keep Robert Snodgrass, Neil Warnock is hoping he will have more joy in persuading Ross McCormack to stay.

McCormack responded to his fellow Scots' departure to Norwich by bagging both goals in the 2-1 win at Torquay last Friday night, according to Warnock five clubs have enquired about the services of the ex-Rangers and Cardiff hit- man.

McCormack flatly rejected the contract offered to him last season, however during the fruitless persuasion efforts to keep Snodgrass, Warnick revealed that representatives from the consortium who are behind the protracted takeover talks tried to intervene and keep Snodgrass at the club.

Would this be Warnock's secret weapon in keeping last seasons top-scorer?

I feel that it will only take a vastly improved deal for McCormack to even consider staying. It is hard to see how any new owners, believed to be property developers and an offshore Bahrain bank, will be in a situation to do this until the ink dries on the deal to transfer ownership passes from Ken Bates to the mystery men from the Middle East.

Until then, despite Warnock stating the obvious eg: where will the goals come from in a side depleted of both Snodgrass and McCormack, I feel our 19-goal poacher remains vulnerable to a serious bid from another club with just one year remaining at Leeds.

Warnock also revealed he would only consider a player-swop if McCormack is to leave this summer, fuelling speculation earlier this month that a trade-off involving McCormack and Brighton's Craig Mackail-Smith was discussed.
