Saints At Ipswich The Verdict

Its hard to see where Saints go from here.

Lets get one thing straight, Saints werent dire, but they were uninspired and lacking in confidence although for long periods of the first half they looked the better side.

Sadly though it was a fragile confidence and although the 4-5-1 formation employed passed the ball well, the truth was that the home side sat back and held them comfortably and were content to go on the break.

IN the first 45 the referee aided by his linesmen seemed to want to give everything against Saints and this lead to the first goal for Ipswich although it has to be said that the shot took a massive deflection that left Kelvin Davies completely stranded.

The second half saw Saints revert to a more traditional 4-4-2 but as the game wore on after a few good chances to equalise, not least a sublime chip from Adam Hammill that smacked against the bar, the Tractor Boys sucked Saints in and poured forward and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead, in fact the only surprise then was that they didnt increase it in the final 25 minutes or so.

But even chasing the game Saints showed no urgency either on or off the pitch, the first substitution didnt come until the 73rd minute when Rasiak arrived for Stern John, and no more were made until two minute to go when in a double substitution on came Marek Saganowski and amingly Jermaine Wright, the travelling support wondered what exactly was the point at that stage of the game and why Wright, the only possible reason being that Burley wanted to antagonise the home fans who booed Wright on to the pitch.

In short it was a game that Saints didnt believe they could win themselves, there were very few plus points, the display from Andrew Davies being one of them who looked solid alongside Viafara at the back, but as for the rest of them it was a team that was clearly no longer playing for its manager, Rudi Skacel and Jason Euell being the worst of a bad bunch.
