Two In - More To Come?

First Two Arrive On Eve Of Pre-Season Training

Well it's been a long time coming but as we head into the 'three week until new stadium' period, Swansea have put two new names in their squad this week.

It's a warm welcome back to Swansea for Marc Goodfellow who seemed to give the side balance that was sadly missing when he was not here and a warm welcome to Adebayo Akinfenwa who joins from Torquay with a tribunal set to decide the payment from the Swans.

Torquay chairman - the outspoken Mike Bateson is less than impressed with the handling of the transfer - speaking on his club's official site he commented " Swansea have not made any offer and I am frankly disappointed that they should choose this route. My understanding of the system is that the matter will be dealt with by tribunal only when normal negotiations have failed to come up with an agreement. I echo Leroy's comments and I hope that our part in improving Akinfenwa's career prospects is taken on board when the committee reach a decision."

Goodfellow arrives on a free but there could be payments to Bristol City dependent on appearances and the like whilst it will be about 2/3 weeks before we know what the Torquay front man will cost us.

The good news about both these transfers is that we will be aware that there will still be money in the Swansea City pot for more signings. We are already aware of having a bid of £130,000 for Grant Holt turned down and seemingly unable to agree personal terms with Andy Burgess despite agreeing a £90,000 fee meaning plenty in the kitty as Jackett looks to make the best use of the five weeks remaining of the close season.

Swans fans have been crying out in some quarters almost since the final whistle at Bury for new signings but it was always reasonably inevitable that we would be waiting until around now for these faces to start arriving. And with the players reporting back for pre-season training on Monday the two new faces will get the chance to immediately meet up, or in Goodfellow's case re-familiarise themselves with the Swans squad.

It does of course remain to be seen on who else could arrive in Swansea before the start of the new season and no-one can really doubt that Kenny still has plenty of work ahead of him before the season opens with a White Rock game against Tranmere. But for now, at least there should be some calming down with some new faces and we await to see what happens next.
