Roberto Aims To Finish Above Leeds

Let's Finish Above Leeds

Roberto Martinez has said that his ideal finishing position this season would be above Leeds United after watching them beat his side 2-0 at Elland Road last weekend.

Leeds were better than us in just about every department and that has led Roberto to declare the intention to finish above them - clearly believing that anybody that does will be winning promotion.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Roberto said "If your are solid, have Premiership experience in 70 per cent of your line-up and have two strikers who are enjoying a sweet moment, you'll have a great chance in League One, "I'm not sure Leeds's front two can keep going as they are - everything they touch goes right at the moment. If you look at (Jermaine) Beckford's goal on Saturday, his first touch was as bad as you will get in the box but he reacted well. "It's a long competition and I don't think they can carry on like that for 10 months, but our challenge now is to finish above Leeds.

"Leeds are quite happy not to play their way out of the division," he added. "They are happy to scrap for every result and the fans don't mind that because they feel they have been harshly treated by the Football League. "There's nothing wrong with that, but I think any other big clubs with big expectations would find it hard to play that way.

"That was the most physical test we will have all season and my players' reaction was very, very pleasing. "We were happy with the way things were going and looking to get a win in the last half hour until the free-kick. "The way the game went, 2-0 was the worst possible scoreline for us."
